When Dr. Martin set out to relocate and renovate Martin Dermatology, the vision was clear from the beginning: create a patient experience that felt nothing like a traditional medical office. Instead of sterile finishes and institutional furniture, the goal was to design a calming, welcoming environment that reflected the personalized nature of concierge dermatological care.

The project began through a personal referral to MOI’s Richmond team, creating an immediate foundation of trust and collaboration. From the earliest conversations, the focus centered on translating a hospitality-inspired experience into a functional healthcare environment — balancing warmth, comfort, and durability without compromising clinical performance.

Throughout the space, the furnishings were intentionally selected to blur the line between residential and commercial design. In the waiting areas, nurse stations, private offices, and break spaces, soft textures, layered finishes, and spa-inspired aesthetics create an atmosphere that feels elevated and approachable rather than transactional or institutional. While the environment feels residential in character, every product was carefully specified to meet the demands of a high-performing medical setting. The result is a dermatology practice designed around the patient experience. Every detail supports a quieter, more personalized approach to care — reinforcing comfort, privacy, and wellbeing from the moment patients walk through the door.

Martin Dermatology reflects how thoughtful workplace and healthcare environments can shape perception, reduce stress, and strengthen human connection. By aligning aesthetics with function, MOI helped create a space that feels less like a healthcare system and more like a hospitality-driven experience centered entirely around the patient.
