MOI Voted a Best Place to Work in Virginia

March 9, 2021

Virginia Business unveiled its 2021 list of the Best Places to Work in Virginia. MOI was honored as a Best Place to Work on the Midsize Employers list.

Founded in 1983, MOI has grown into one of the Mid-Atlantic’s top furniture dealers, serving clients locally and globally. MOI was built upon, and continues to follow, a set of values that guide us each and every day. We strive to create a supportive space for our team, remain flexible in our approach, and provide our clients with top-notch service.

TEAMWORK  |  OWNERSHIP  |  PERFORMANCE

The year 2020 brought with it many challenges, including how to maintain company culture when staff are working from home. Our team did not shy away from the challenge, but instead rose up and supported one another during very uncertain times. MOI’s leadership team encouraged staff to maintain relationships with one another using virtual tools like Microsoft Teams. Richmond Director of Sales, Jim Hopkins, touted MOI’s trust in our teammates and heavy emphasis on teamwork as the key to continued success. He shares that his “team has the tools and knowledge to perform at the level required by our customers” regardless of whether we are in the office or at home, and that we are given “the autonomy to get it done.”

I am consistently surrounded by talented people that share the same initiatives I have about producing work of high quality and giving our clients a better experience. There is a strong sense of being part of a larger whole, while still having individualism in the culture at each MOI office.

MOI is not only dedicated to meeting our clients’ needs, but also those of our team members. Our leadership team provides staff with the opportunity to grow and build upon their skills. This may come from additional education, one-on-one mentoring, and even the freedom to choose a new role. After 10 years as a Project Coordinator, Teddi Caraballo felt she “had mastered those skills and was eager for a new challenge.” She expressed interest in an open position for a Project Manager, where she was quickly encouraged to apply. Teddi shares that “every step of the way I was assisted in transitioning from the Project Coordination role to Project Management.” This type of professional development is seen throughout the company, making it an ideal place for individuals looking to grow their career.

Welcoming Teddi to the Project Management Team, Michael Glidden shares “Many companies will espouse corporate values, but internally often struggle to live up to their standards. Since coming to MOI I have found that this company and our leadership make proactive effort to uphold our values, care for our team, and invest in our future.”

Though a first for our team, we are not at all surprised that MOI was named a best place to work. It is clear from the experiences shared that our company is truly a unique place to not only work, but grow personally and professionally. We strive to create a culture that reflects our values and in turn produces amazing results for our clients.

MOI has a vibrant and supportive culture among coworkers. Each individual has a role to fulfill, the refreshing aspect of our culture is that everyone also focuses maximizing the experience and value for our clients. When challenges arise, we naturally collaborate on solutions. When errors occur, we recognize them as learning opportunities and approach that learning process with a positive mindset. MOI has a level of mutual trust and respect that seems very rare. Our culture is bred and supported by our leadership team, and extends beyond Virginia to encompass all of MOI.
