One hour ’til ‘Heart for Haiti’

It’s not often that some of D.C.’s biggest real estate and legal players are housed under one roof.
Tonight from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency on Capitol Hill, various sponsors — each donating $6,500 — are hosting a fundraising event for Haiti.
Khalid Itum, a vice president at MOI Inc., helped pull together the event with his colleagues in less than a week.
Khalid was apparently so affected by the devastation in Haiti he “was not able to sleep,” said Heather Davis, director of marketing at MOI. “He came in last Thursday morning saying we have to strike while the iron is hot and rally together now.”
Sponsors on board include MOI, Jones Lang LaSalle, Skanska USA, Arent Fox, Barbara Nolan Inc, OPX, Hyatt, Swank and Delucchi+.
All proceeds from each $100 ticket will go straight to the American Red Cross Haiti Disaster Relief Fund. E-mail blasts from event supporters have asked people to spread the word to friends, family, colleagues, and competitors.
The goal is to raise $100,000, with 1,000 to 2,000 attendees expected.
The event will feature a quick presentation by Red Cross on efforts in Haiti, hors d’oeuvres, and a full open bar (thanks to the ‘overwhelming generosity’ of the sponsors, said the event Web site).
As of Sunday, the American Red Cross has reportedly raised $103 million for relief efforts.
